A massive landslide hit Darjeeling district of West Bengal on Saturday, leaving three persons belonging to the same family dead.
According to locals, the district had been receiving substantial rainfall and a pipe leakage at Rimbik’s Lodhama triggered the landslide which led to the collapse of the house where the family was residing.
Late Friday night, the house was completely buried under mud and soil and three persons remained trapped inside. This morning, when locals spotted the collapsed house, they took out the dead bodies and informed the police.
Later police reached the spot and removed the three dead bodies to the nearby hospital for post mortem.
The three deceased have been identified as Nima Tamang (34), Chandra Tamang (29) and Nehal Tamang (5).
“The post mortem on the three bodies will be conducted. Necessary action has been initiated,” said a senior police official of Darjeeling district.
