In Tamil Nadu, the polls for rural local bodies in 27 districts were held in two phases on the 27th and 30th of last month. A total of 91 thousand 975 candidates were cast for the polls. 

This includes 515 District Panchayath Council posts, 275 District Panchayats, 5,090 Panchayath Council Council posts, 9,624 Panchayath Chairman posts, and 76 thousand 746 Panchayath Ward membership.

76.19 percent of the votes were cast in the first phase and 77.73 percent in the second phase. The voter turnout was held at 315 centers yesterday. 

The counting of votes began yesterday morning and is taking place in different districts. Election results have been announced in 9 districts including Namakkal, Kanyakumari, Nilgiris, Theni, and Karur.
