OPS including 11 MLA’S merit removal case – Supreme Court hearing today

Case for disqualification of 11 MLAs, including Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, is being heard in the Supreme Court today

A vote of confidence was held on February 18, 2017, against the government headed by Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy. Eleven AIADMK legislators including current Deputy Chief Minister O. Pannirselvam and Minister Mafa Pandiyarajan voted against the government. DMK MLA Chakrabani filed a suit in the Madras High Court demanding the dismissal of 11 persons. Supporters of Dhinakaran, Vijayvel, Rangasamy and others have sued over the same demand.

In this case, the High Court Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice Abdulkuttus adjourned the hearing on April 7, 2018. The magistrates said that the Leader of the House of Assembly had not issued any orders on the petition seeking to disqualify the 11 members.

But the judges dismissed all the cases requiring the disqualification of 11 legislators, declaring that the order issued by the council president was subject to court review. The DMK MLA has appealed to the Supreme Court against this. The case was pending for more than a year. The DMK met with the Chief Justice last week. The Supreme Court has announced that the case will be heard today.
