The National Green Tribunal on December 15th directed Tamilnadu government to reopen Sterlite Factory in , Tamilnadu.
The Supreme Court Monday refused to allow the reopening of Vedanta’s Sterlite plant in Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu but granted it liberty to make a further appeal in the Madras high court. The bench by RF Nariman said it is allowing Tamil Nadu’s appeal against the National Green Tribunal (NGT) order only on grounds of maintainability.

Nariman also mentioned that “It said NGT has no jurisdiction to order reopening of the plant”. The hearing comes after the Vedanta Group proceeds to the Court to seek direction to Tamilnadu Pollution Control Board to follow the directions provided by National Green Tribunal for reopening the factory.

This is the most happiest moment in my life

Lines of MDMK Gen. Sec Vaiko after Supreme Court Judgement.

What happened in the Court was the interesting part of the Judgment. Vedanta Groups appealed to Supreme Court to seek orders to exuecute the Judgment by NGT (National Green Tribunal). Advocates from Vedanta wanted to provide Electricity and Top security for the Sterlite factory. When no other Major points were place against Vedanta by TN advocates its Vaiko who objected the argument and wanted him to argue. Judge Nariman postponed the Judgement for a day to listen Vaiko’s argument.

On 18th February 2019 its Vaiko who took 45 min to argue against Sterlite Factory in Tuticorin. He also listed several points to the of Sterlite factory.

Key Points:

Judgment’s referring to Tirupur factories which spoiled Noiyal river.
Judgment’s in Vellore Leather factory case.
Evidence on nature pollution Tuticorin.
Evidence which not considered by NGT.
Documents which are not submitted by Tamilnadu Government.

Vaiko’s argument made a major twist in Judge Nariman’s judgment. His argument which made Nariman ask several questions against Vedanta Group. Vaiko’s been against Sterlite for more than 22 years. After the Vaiko’s victory his party members celebrating all over the Tamilnadu. Twitter appreciates Vaiko for all his efforts to shut Sterlite Industry.
