Coronavirus Outbreak blankets and curtains withdrawn from AC coaches of Central, Western Railway

The Western and Central Railway on Saturday issued an order to withdraw blankets and curtains from AC coaches since they are not washed every day in view of the coronavirus outbreak.

“As per the extant instructions, curtains and blankets provided in AC coaches are not washed (after) every trip. In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, blankets and curtains will be immediately withdrawn from service until further orders.” Western Railway spokesperson Gajanan Mahatpurkar said.

“Passengers will be advised to bring their own blankets in their own interest. Some additional bedsheets will be kept for any exigencies,” he added.

Moreover, Central Railway has asked their personnel to clean coach fittings like door handles, door latches, entry door handles, seat guard, snack trays, window glass, a window grill, bottle holders etc with disinfectants.

“Doorway and gangway areas, frequented by passengers, are being cleaned with hot water. Intensive cleaning, including steam cleaning, will be ensured in pantry cars,” a railway official said.

Moreover, the official informed that disinfectant chemicals, liquid soap, and napkin rolls will be given to the passengers by the staff on board the train. The staff has also been instructed to keep a strict vigil on any passenger with flu-like symptoms. They have been told to not recirculate used linen, and also segregate them from symptomatic passengers.
